Art Lawsuits and Galleries

Today we learned about art and the law at Christie’s Education. Mathew McCullough explained to us many different cases of art lawsuits. From intellectual property or restitution to art crime, he told us many stories and its legal issues. This was a new topic for most of the students so there was definitely lots of learning happening!

After class, we headed to the FLAG Art Foundation in Chelsea where we viewed a variety of pieces of contemporary art in their loft space. The FLAG Art foundation is a nonprofit foundation that gives credit and shows the art of artists that for different reasons are not having the recognition that they deserve. Afterwards, we gallery crawled around Chelsea and checked Jonas Wood’s exhibit at the Gagosian, Lorna Simpson’s Darkening at the Hauser and Wirth and Josh Smith’s Emo Jungle at The David Zwirner gallery. We took some extra time to also check the Taglialatella Gallery. The students showed a lot of interest to see all the street artists that they had in display; From Banksy to Invader, they loved them

all!
