The classes are in full swing by now. Photo students have been swarming the campus, looking for just the right shot; international financiers debating the latest public offerings and comparing their portfolios; essayists digging deep into their journals to create the fuel for future compositions; and robotics engineers sneaking a peek at the PR2 at a UC-Berkeley lab.
The activities program has been busy as well, with cooking club, documentary film society and ultimate frisbee matches. Two highlights of the evening events had to be Casino Night, with the students competing to collect funny money at 8 different gaming tables, and Color Wars, with each RA group battling for fame in fortune in fabulously coordinated outfits.
The weekend featured two popular field trips. Saturday saw ASA-Berkeley at The Embarcadero, where the students enjoyed food and shopping at Fisherman’s Wharf, then caught a ferry to Alcatraz. (Fortunately, the prison warden consented to allow all ASA charges to return to the mainland at the end of their tour.)
On Sunday afternoon, a hardy band of hikers headed for the Berkeley Rose Garden to catch the great views. After that, we reboarded the buses for a trip to AT & T Field, where we watched the hometown Giants vanquish the visiting Mets.
